Skifta (free)

Skifta is an easy way to control, play and enjoy your music, videos and photos at home and on the move. There's no uploading to the web or syncing to your phone. In fact, you don't copy or move your media at all. You just leave it where it is. Then, stream your file direct from Serviio and watch them directly on your android device.

You will need both programs for this to work.
the above works only in a very limited way on a Samsung Galaxy S2.
Using ffmpeg SW decoding in rockplayer lite is far too slow for HD material, and the internal HW decoders are much more limited than the commercial flyers would have you believe, and not well documented.
Perhaps transcoding to more limited versions of the respective file formats would improve matters.
